Mizutani Ayaka adopted her surname from a family of humans with whom she once resided. They found her when she was a kit, abandoned and starving, and took her in as one of their own, despite the horror that followed her kind around. They kept her safe from demon hunters and in turn, she grew to love humanity. As she matured into adulthood, she experienced generation after generation of the Mizutani clan, each one treated her as an equal. Despite how model of a youkai Ayaka became, many people of her clan's village were extremely uncomfortable with the fact that she was allowed to live among them.

That is, until her powers were discovered. For a long time, no one knew Ayaka's true potential-- they only knew she had an affinity for magic. It wasn't until a brutal siege on her clan's estate left many of the men and women she saw as family injured that they learned of her healing ability. One by one, she saved her clansmen-- the closer she held their bodies to her, the faster and more efficiently they seemed to heal. Because of the damage, she first had to stabilise them before she could really work on healing them. All of this took so much energy that she ended up collapsing many times on her rounds, healing them bit by bit as she could. When it was all said and done, sixty household denizens were completely healed and the remaining forty-two were stable enough to live. Ayaka slept for several weeks to recover her power. It would be many generations later that they would learn the best way to be healed by Ayaka would be for her to ingest them.

This is what brought Ayaka esteem and respect in the village. Many ended up bringing their sick and injured to her after news spread; some people even came from lands the fox had never heard of before. She welcomed all of them with open arms, pledging to make herself a friend to mankind-- to show that not all youkai were to be feared as they seemed to be by humans.

After residing in the same place for some two hundred years, Ayaka decided it was time for her to travel and spread her blessings around. Though she enjoys travelling and meeting new people, there are times when she returns to her home to visit her humans and to check to see how they are doing.
