Backstory:
Ruan Kruger/Ra's life began on a distant planet. The planet's biosphere had mostly arid lands with few lands that were fertile, humid, and lush due to the proximity of the sun and its blazing heat. The planet's ecosystem had two dominant sapient humanoid species: the Phoenixes and Wild Dogs.

Ever since the two species' first counter, the two constantly warred with one another be it because of prejudice, land and power, and faith. When each species was not infighting amongst themselves of course.

Kruger was born into the slums of one of the many Phoenix empires' cities. In these slums the poor, outcasts, and the diseased lingered in the rot and decay of the buildings of the slum as they were barred from better living standards and raise in social class by the higher classes. Hard working, fending and stealing as best as possible to survive from day-to-day was the life of Ruan and many slum dwellers’ existence. Like others, Raun lost siblings to either the gang violence, famines or plagues.

Eventually he lost his parents by the age of twelve. His parent having played a critical part in an uprising where both the wild dog and phoenixes of the Slum revolted together to overthrow the government. Unfortunately, it failed like many rebellions before, many of the surviving rebels were either sent away to lands unknown or put to torture and death. For their treason, Raun’s parents were sentenced to death, his mother hung while his father executed by firing squad. Out of a family of twelve: Ruan, the last of his older brothers and the last of his younger sisters were all that remained. They fled the city and went their separate ways with new identities, Ruan’s new indemnity being Ra Florian.

For many years, he continued to deal with many hardships. Sometimes for starting conflict with no noble intent, many times for a simple kindness to both Wild dog and Phoenix pariahs much like himself.

In his young adult years, Ruan found and would sadly lose his brother to bar brawl where said brother was gave his life to save his brother’s. Soon after he discovered his sister at a massive grave for victims of a famine where the government refused to step in and aid poor farmers and labourers.

Eventually he arrived at a city where he met the wild dog former slave named Nyota_Clemens. Despite her initial yet understandable distrust of him, Raun won over Nyota's favor through his kindness, patience, and friendliness towards her. He presented her his plan to set up a new life for himself and others and wanted her as an equal business partner and landowner. Much to his giddy joy, Nyota revealed a suitable location back near her home country.

After the celebration of their partnership and friendship, the two began on their adventure. During the journey, the two stayed tried and true companions who had each other’s back through the hardships and dangers. And when he encountered a former male lover of his (and the family they raised together back in the city that he and Nyota started from), which while he loved his partner still, he found himself in a love triangle as he began to develop similar feelings for Nyota. Despite this, he didn’t act upon those romantic feelings and never pressed such issue either one of them. When they finally arrived at their destination. With a land to call their own and to govern over, both the phoenixes and wild dog would get down to business and worked the land to be suitable for farming through their expertise and knowledge they had learned in their lives. Soon they started to hire people to help work the land: promising shelter, food and profits for their work on the fields of the farm.

Eventually after several years the farm expended greatly that it was soon a village. Of course, with two species and many cultures that have been at war with one another for many times in their planet's history, there was tension in the village but for the most the denizens co-existed together. During this time, Ruan started a new family with a former phoenix widow who was driven out of her home when inheritance went to her husband's eldest son. At that same time, Ruan kept his feelings about Nyota a secret still from all. The feelings left him conflicted but still refused to act upon them.

What he did not know was that Nyota harboured many violent bitter and painful feelings over her past. Raun worried when his friend disappeared one day, and news that many locations were being laid to ruin by some unknown force of nature. His worries though gave way to terror one day as alien creatures invaded their world and started to enslave/harvest all. He would be among the many slaves that were taken for selection for the Lazarus project. His family seemingly lost to the firestorms and bombardments. When taken back to the Lazarus Project HQ, Ruan/Ra was experimented on with long lost magic, his body painfully changed against his own will so that he may never die.

And thus, the Phoenix was born anew. His resentment of his new master made him an unruly commander that formed the secretive freedom fighter group, The Zan. The rebels first started out as a relatively few discontented Lazarus and AWF citizens who were funded through the smuggling of military resources. It would be here Raun met Kios, Dios, and Lorisa. All worked together despite their different viewpoints, goals, and methods. However, their bond was built on shaky ground and their comradeship ended when the Civil Wars broke out when Ra/Phoenix confronted his former friends at the Lazarus Project Headquarters and discovered many dark secrets such as Dios’ murder of his family. After the destructive confrontation that led to the building’s destruction, Ra and the remaining Zan such as Nyota left the dying universe and into other realms unknown. The Zan has gradually from a crippled flotilla of freedom fighters to multiverse spawning underground criminal empire.

Currently, in public Ra presents himself as an approachable, wise and powerful restaurant owning tycoon, philanthropist and politician. In secret he is one of the most ruthless crime lords in existence, and slowly losing what little one would consider humanity to the point that Nyota has seemingly abandon him much to his despair.
