In one of the more civilized continents of the great planet Desideriis, there lies a land where man has only just begun to tame the world, but magic still runs wild and free. Great scholars and wizards of the state have learned to force, bend, and weave this magic to their understanding and advantage; trying, as humans always do, to fit this infinite, ineffable power into a labeled box so they can know it.
To the witches, these attempts are laughable at best.
Witches see everything to be similar to people like themselves. Every drop of water has a it's own spirit, but so does the river it's a part of. Every stone, every mountain, every word, every thought and dream, everything has a spirit. Infinite parts of a grand infinite whole.
Doesn't make sense? Don't worry, not even the witches understand how it works.
But here is where witches differ from wizards. For wizards to cast magic, they compell these spirits to bend to their will by the force of their own spirit within them. However, it is taxing. That force within them is finite and quickly consumed, taking time to replenish.
Witches, on the other hand, recognize that each spirit has wants and needs of it's own, much like people do. They make deals and gain favor with the forces of nature in a hazy, yet powerful karmical scale.
Often, the spirits the witches speak to may ask them to prevent a wizard's magic from compelling them, as it is most uncomfortable. This causes wizards and scholars to despise witches and persecute them as outcasts.
And so, into the wilds where man's wretched civilization has not reached, the witches fled. Cradled and hidden in the care of Mother Nature, the witches have learned to be underhanded and sneaky, gaining power and favor with the spirits to fight back those who may hurt them. Covens fighting against the wizards in the dead of night.
But there are many who do not care to get caught up in this war of morals and ideals. It is common to find a solitary witch's hut deep in the forest or lonely wizard towers in secluded places.
Riley is one of these witches. A self-proclaimed fierce and powerful witch, living alone in the edge of The Deepwoods as they give way to The Greener Pastures. He spends much of his time trying to perfect his spells, running spirit errands, or plotting convoluted and deeply flawed revenge plans.

He always had a deep-set love for nature and very hard opinions on protecting it from the progression of man; he is very unhesistant to pick a fight with people who disagree with him on such. Around the age of 15 he sought out a witch who taught him the ways of witchcraft, but she had business elsewhere and left after teaching him only the very basics.
At around 17, Riley built himself a little hut at the edge of The Darkwood and worked to better his craft. Being the quick learner that he is, Riley picked up the nuances of making deals with elemental spirits rather easily. Self-confident and full of passion to protect nature, he decided to use this power to stand in the way of those who would hurt it. ...this mostly just got him into trouble.
A very notable example of this is when he came across a wizard traveling through the Greener Pastures, carrying all sorts of unnatural, nature-bending magic devices. Pissed off, he decided to have a few strong words with the wizard who did little more than laugh at him. "Tell me," the wizard said, "Do you treat everyone who comes across this valley so hospitably?" His blood boiling and vision turning red with rage, Riley invoked a spell he was working on that would put the wizard in his place. "Eat me!" he shouted as his hand began to glow with a silvery-moonlight lumination. A beam of moonlight shot from the palm of his hand and hit the wizard directly in the face. ...giving the wizard a very minor headache.
The wizard staggered backward in fear and shock before realizing the spell had been a dud. The wizard seemed to grow in his anger, until he was looming ominously over Riley. Yet still, the wizard's tone did not change. "That was a very foolish thing to do, boy." he said as he calmly drew out from his bag an old sign on a string. He smiled at Riley. "What was it that you said? ...Oh, yes!" He brought the sign up to his lips and spoke loud and clear. "EAT ME"
With one swift move, the sign flew forward and tied it's string it behind Riley's neck. Looking down, Riley saw in large font the words "EAT ME" written on the sign. In annoyance, Riley lifted the loose hanging sign above his head to remove it, but somehow, it caught on something that wasn't there. He tried again and again, but this sign that should be so easy to remove would simply not come off. "What did you do?!" he shouted in fear and rage. The wizard only chuckled calmly and began to walk away. "Ah, youth! You seemed like you were eager to learn and use magic, so I taught you a lesson.
One that would stick for good!"
When Riley turned to demand the sign be removed, the wizard was gone.

8/12/20 - He quickly was sought out and digested by witch hunter Dalvri
8/14/20 - He got caught picking herbs from Aurelie's garden by Merlen who sneakily followed him home and used horrific dark magic that he should not have been capable of to brutally consume and digest the poor witch.
8/21/20 - He made a new friend by forcefeeding himself to Bight in order to escape the spiders that refused to leave him alone. He's looking forward to having breakfast with the snake boy in the morning!

The main source of a witch's power is from the deals they have made with the spirits. When they strike a deal, Riley must first fulfill his end of the bargain before the spirit will fulfill theirs. This makes it witches dangerously powerful if they work in secret, as it allows them to make any deals with any spirits they wish to cast spells. These spells can be labeled as ritual spells (rs).
If a witch wishes for a spirit to not fulfill their deal until called upon (be it by a phrase or an action) they can say so while making a deal. This generally results in a single use spell that they can bargain to get more of by running spirit errands. These can be labeled as charge spells (cs)
Occasionally, when they finish a particularly strenuous or dangerous errand, the spirit may grant them a permanent privelage. These can be labeled as privelage spells (ps)

Lay to Rest - (CS) Bargains struck with mercy and death give Riley the ability to release a soul from the body of a creature, if the creature is suffering beyond reason or is an undead being unwillfully controlled by a necromancer. The soul is warded so none can interfere with it's journey. Note: He cannot do this to himself.
Moon Glow - (CS) A simple spell that makes Riley's hand glow with a brightness and color similar to that of moonlight.
Blue Haze - (CS) Riley can shrowd himself in a misty blue haze that makes it difficult to pinpoint his exact location. People within 5 feet of him will be enveloped in the haze surrounding him and feel their minds go dizzy and numb while they are in it. He can only keep it up for 10 seconds and it has a limited number of charges.
Elemental Favor - (CS) The power source of any witch and a true wildcard. The deals Riley has made and karma he's gained makes the elements inclined to protect him, be it a gust of wind that keeps him from falling off a ledge, or fire delicately dancing around his body so he does not burn. These favors are finite, however, and unless he is owed a favor from the element that he needs help from, it will not have an effect.
Azure Nightfall - (PS) The most powerful spell Riley has in his arsenal. It can only be activated at dusk, when the sky begins to turn a deep blue in the last light of day. For 3 minutes, Riley's skin becomes the same shade of blue as the sky, speckled with the early stars. Time around him slows by a factor of five, meaning that every one second for the world is five seconds for him. This insane boost in speed allows him to escape an unbeatable foe with ease, or to unleash a flurry of blows while dodging the enemy perfectly.
