The golden age of space exploration sent mankind off in an endless quest for knowledge across the cosmos, searching for the wonders waiting to be discovered in its galaxy. For though Earth is the cradle of humanity, yet man cannot stay in the cradle forever. Preceded by intelligent probes and surveying robots, tens of thousands of surveyors soon followed in their wake. Of course, a living organism has very different functional requirements as compared to a synthetic machine, requiring more elaborate and sophisticated technologies to sustain life. Explorers also needed a method to safely transport the varied lifeforms that they encountered safely back to laboratories for research, and it is out of this need that the first Basic Acquisition Lifeform Limiter modules, or BALLs, were developed. Starting from hodgepodge engineering designs clobbled together for a makeshift purpose and then elegantly refined over hundreds of years, BALLs today are so advanced that they function almost like magic.

Tatalissa Aldin's parents were in the Deep Space Exploration Corps and so young Tatalissa grew up on the move, in space, and often with little supervision. Growing up surrounded by the scouting corps gave young Tatalissa an intimate education in the use of BALLs and their practical applications; with little else to do in the middle of nowhere, Tata quickly became adept at Taming. After her parents passed away when she was sixteen (an unfortunate incident on an unscouted Class-A planet), she inherited their ship and was forced to make a living for herself. Do you know how hard it is to make an honest living on the fridges of existence?

It's impossible.

So Tatalissa turned to less then savory methods to keep her ship flying and food on her table. She turned her talents at Taming towards becoming a pet master to get by, capturing, taming, and training creatures to battle the pets of other tamers in unsanctioned arena-like fights. She started off by hunting after wild beasts, but not only was that a lot of work, it was generally a lot of money for not a lot of payoff.

So Tata started capturing other humans to pay the bills. Oh, sure, a lot of people would look down on kidnapping people to basically feed them to the lions... but at this point, Tata's made so many self-justifications and the money is too good for her to simply stop. Besides, if her capturees win, they get to live another day. Every now and then, Tata grows fond of some of one of them, deciding to keep them for her own purposes instead of sending them to the fights.

While she's great at capturing warrior-maidens to fight for her, she's still learning her business when training them to fight. She's a skilled programmer, for certain, but she is not a skilled fighter, so any woman that ends up in one of Tata's BALLs has to bring her own talents to the table if she wants to have any hope of surviving in the pits. Not that Tata particularly cares; it's easy enough for her to get new pets and even a one-sided show draws a big crowd. Oddly enough, they often seem to draw bigger crowds, leading Tata to wonder if she shouldn't be capturing normal Earth humans full time for the best cost-profit ratio.

BALL Technology

Originally designed for capture and transport of lifeform specimens, BALLs today run off the Ultima Engine, a powerful proprietary device which enable them to distill a captive specimen into pure streams of data. All BALLs contain a capture beam which acquires a lock on a target, then draws it into a spherical shell engineered to be nearly impenetrable from within. Advanced versions of BALLs also include modular technology to improve performance, such as forming non-Hilbert dimensions within the shell that allows the user to contain otherwise non-fitting specimens at greatly reduced size and weight. As a pet tamer, Tatalissa's equipment is specifically keyed to her signature so that only she can use it.

Within a BALL device, the Ultima Engine can form a variety of hard-light holograms or produce various substances by rearrangment of basic atomic structure. This allows Tatalissa to generate living environments for her acquisitions. The Ultima Engine can also reduce any captured sample down to pure computer data which can be manipulated and then re-encoded back into the sample, although the engine cannot actually create or destroy matter and is still limited by entropy constraints. As many samples dislike being confined, stripped apart, brainwashed, or toyed with, a BALL device must also be strong enough to pacify a sample when necessary, or at the very least keep it constrained, and for this reason the shell is all but indestructible from within.

H.A.R.D.BALLs
Once tamers started to battle, they quickly realized that other tamers could be excellent battlers. Enter the Humanoid Apprehension Recreational Demesne - and no, "recreational" does not mean that the victim will have fun inside. Hardballs resemble handheld torches with a small clasping bar and a pair of supporting struts; as other humans are typically easy to trap and acquire compared to other creatures, the Hardball is instead entirely geared to reprogramming them. Hardballs indeed come with complex brainwashing and data manipulation suites, capable of changing almost any physical and mental aspect of a person.

Various specialized types of BALL also exist for the subduing of abnormal, supernatural, or otherwise oddball prey. And don't push their self-destruct buttons. Unless if you really, really mean it. Cancellation buttons are out of order, after all.

OOC Notes
Tatalissa herself is not available for voring. That said, her Pets most certainly are! She'll keep a rotating list and once one of them is eaten, she'll be gone forever. That's right, there's Perma-play up in here. That said, the Pets aren't available for heavy sexual play, though I'm not above some groping and molestation during or after the fight; vore is the star of the show.

Tatalissa herself, however, is available for control and domination play. You want to become one of her Pets? Talk to me, we'll work something out.
