βLa plus belle des ruses du diable est de vous persuader qu'il n'existe pas."
("The devil's finest trick is to persuade you that he does not exist.")β
β Charles Baudelaire, Paris Spleen
The Devil's House Casino is old. It was originally built in 1845 by an enterprising railroad baron, hoping to use a line of casinos established across the length of the emerging railroad to esentially take back the wages he paid his workers. They were notoriously dirty and underhanded, and went out of buisness within the year. This particular establishment in what is now Las Cruces, New Mexico, was converted into a saloon, then a small, local museum, then nearly bulldozed before it was bought by the mysterious Laslia, who gave the place it's current name and a much-needed refurbishment and rebuild into the glamerous location it is now.
Almost in spite of the off-putting moniker, the casino has a reputation for being extremely fair, with an almost unheard-of policy to refund customers who think they've been cheated. The staff are paid well, the food served at the restraunt is high-quality, and the rules of the casino are well-enforced. So well enforced, actually, that the casino grounds are considered an extraterritorial zone akin to an embassy, a right purchased from the national government by the mysterious owner. Rulebreakers are often brought to the owner in person, and it is rumored that those who see the mysterious owner are never seen again. Those are just... rumors, though, right?
House Rules:
-No violence or threats of violence will be tolerated upon casino grounds. Staff are encouraged to step in if any situations appear to be escalating between patrons. The Owner will be the final arbiter in these cases.
-Refunds will be issued to The Patron if The Patron feels cheated in any way, however the Patron forfeits their right to any winnings that day, and will be asked to turn in their chips at the exchange desk. Refusal to comply will be met with a refusal of refund.
-Casino Staff reserve the right to ask The Patron(s) to cease any activity they feel is nonconducive to a pleasant and fair gambling environment, for any reason.
Anyone who wants to add a character to the staff should contact RainbowInTheDarK. I'll denote the character as belonging to you. Some of the alts on this list aren't fully converted over to Devil's House lore. A lot of these are old alts I either never used or don't much like the current lore of. Your patience is appreciated during this process.
