A setting to rp in, related to The_Naga_Empire. The Wild Clans of the Wild Lands, as it existed some thousand years before the Empire reached it's peak in the ancient world. The Hyschari are still considered an invading force in these times, and while the various clans are 'enemies' by way of predator/prey relationships, they've never encountered a foe so brazenly savage and brutal. This is a good setting for simple one-off vore rps as well as more story-driven content, such as the intractions between the clans out in the wild. There is also the Empire to contend with, an enemy that has enslaved many clans already, using them as a slave army to fight their battles and in the colliseum for their amusement.
WHAT WERE THE WILD LANDS?Many ages ago, the land was divided into many various territories. Far to the west, the humans lived amongst one another in their own cities; highly aggressive yet intelligent and industrial. In the vast woodlands and forests to the east dwelled the mythical and fantastic, the dragons that feircely guarded their nests, the elves who retreated to a life of peaceful isolation and the centaurs, pacifists who resorted to violence only when threatened or intruded upon. And speckled across the continent were the 'Wild Clans', the predator and prey tribes that lived by nature's law- survival of the fittest. In the mountains to the north, the Lamia Clans, who prided themselves as warriors and assassins. The skies were the domain of the countless Feathered Clans, tribes of birds both predatorial and passive. The Wolf Clans. The Mouse Clans. The Ape Clans. Though adversarial, the tribes of each clan lived in mutual fear and respect of one another, rarely ever resorting to direct conflict. But there was one clan that defied nature, threatening to spread like a cancer across the land. Far away, in the Southern Mountains there dwelt the Hyschari. Though their fledgling empire was small, their ambition and hunger for conquest was insatiable. The Naga Clan from a distant continent sought to enslave all that they had encountered; with each territory they ravaged, their army of slaves would grow...helpless, unwilling soldiers forced to fight former neighbors, rivals and friends under their new masters' rule, and against one another in gladiatorial combat for their masters' amusement.WHO WERE THE CLANS?In nature, it is accepted that all must eat to live, and all live to eat. Though intelligent and capable of complex thought and speech, the Wild Clans still abided by that law of nature, living together as predator and prey. Each clan had their own traditions and culture, which only grew more distinct between the clans' many tribes. Some were vastly more intelligent than others, such as the Lamia clans whose civilization could have mirrored the humans. Others, such as the Ape Clan, had seen very little advancement past a primitive stage- while clever, they were far from complex. Some clans lived amongst one another, enjoying the company of their neighboring tribes while others preferred a more isolated or even nomadic lifestyle. The one thing they all universally understood was that there were those who would be fed, and those who would be food. Even in this, the clans acknowledged one another with begrudging respect; to eat one's prey was not an act of war, but simply the way of life. Even so, while they never expressed a direct hatred, it was exceedingly rare for enemy clans to live beside one another.THE HYSCHARI"No one could remember where they came from, or when they had initially arrived on our shores. All we can remember is the pain. The Hyschari are destroying our world."
Before the Hyschari came, the concepts of war, hatred and revenge were foreign to most of the Clans. Aside from the mild conflict here and there, the Wild Lands were generally considered peaceful, lush. It was an age of innocence. The Hyschari's arrival heralded the end of that age. Among the first of their victims were the humans, whose cities would fall one by one to the advancing onslaught. Those who were not killed in battle were quickly shipped off to the Imperial City to be kept and bred as a renewable feeding stock. Moving into the forests, they targeted the dragons, to beat them into submission before setting them upon the other inhabitants and clans. They are now currently campaigning to eradicate the other clans, and assimilate them into the ranks of their growing slave army. Back in Hyscharak, those clans unfortunate enough to live through the invasion would be divided by gender and age, then either sent off to die as food or be auctioned off to live in slavery. In the colliseums, slaves would be forced to kill one another for the nagas' entertainment.
"In the end, the innocence of our clans had been destroyed. We watched in horror as friends and brothers were corrupted and pitted against one another, and pitied the sight of once-proud predators reduced to less than nothing. Nature's law be damned, no one deserves to live or die like this."
The term 'Clan' was often used rather loosely to define any group of individuals of a species, be it a small pack or a vast community. Some clans were recognized through the land by name, by noteriety alone, while others remained largely unknown.
The Humans
One of the most versatile races to inhabit the land, the human race was known for it's technological acheivements, agriculture, and uncanny ability to generate conflict. However, despite their warlike tendencies the humans generally got along with most of the other clans, wishing to stay away only from those they perceived as a genuine threat, such as the Lamia Clans.
The Elves
Though similar in appearance to humans, Elves were an eldritch race with deep spiritual and magickal connections to the earth and nature. Almost all of the clans gave their respect to the Elves, for they were considered the purest race to inhabit the Wild Lands.
The Centaurs
Often considered as wild and free as untamed horses, the Centaurs wished to avoid meddling in the affairs of others as much as possible. They were reluctant to engage in combat unless it was absolutely necessary, and preferred more than anything to be left to themselves. The only race they openly allied themselves with were the Elves. They were among the first races to be driven to extinction by the Hyschari invasion.
The Dragon Clans
Feral dragons were revered by the dragon clans for their size and power; the tribes of the Dragon Clans were bipedal dragons who were rather unpredictable, basing their actions on personal benefit. They were one of the few races that would often collaborate with those that one would consider their prey. However, they were also just as quick to prey upon those clans, making their actions seem exceedingly random at times. For this reason, many clans were wary of the dragons, seeing them as untrustworthy.
The Feathered Clans
Like the Dragon Clans, the sentient birdmen of the Feathered Clans tribes gave their respect to their feral cousins who dwelt in the dense jungles and forests of the WIld Lands, harpies and hippogryphs and the like. Their people were varied, some predatory like the Hawk tribes, others less so. The Feathered Clans were both feared as feirce hunters and revered for their appreciation of crafts and artistry.
The Lamia Clans
In the mountains dwelt many of the Lamia race, their clans spread across the mountain ranges and some into the distant plains. Boasting a rich culture and heritage, their society was more or less on par with the Humans. Lamias lived the lives of warriors and assassins, often battling rivalries within their own clans. Some clans were fascinated by humans in particular, though most humans feared and hated them out of superstition and their similarity to the invading Nagas. Still, they were an apex predator in the Wild Lands, commanding both great fear and respect from all others.
The Wolf Clans
The Wolf clans had a highly spiritual and ritualistic culture, To the point that some clans held funeral rites for prey taken down in a hunt. Each clan operated just as a wolf pack, with an alpha leading a strict social heiarchy. Nomadic by nature, the clans never stayed in one place for too long.
The Ape Clans
Despite their intellectual stagnation, the Apes were surprisingly adept in combat; they were clever and manipulative, recognizing that most considered them to be stupid and using that to their advantage. Much like the Humans, the Apes coveted power and respect...and were willing to do anything they could to acheive it.
The Mouse Clans
Most would consider the Mice to be unfortunate, a species known to serve as prey to just about everything. Not very powerful, and rarely intellectually driven to fashion their own tools, clothing or weapons, the Mice instead relied on their unparalleled skills as merchants, traders and theives, often dressing themselves in mismatched gear stolen from other clans and attempting to use weapons they had little training for. Their clans were often the headquarters for many a theives' guild, their culture including challenges issued to one another to loot precious items from their would-be predators.
Along with the clans hunting and running from one another, the land was also filled with great beasts, dragons, harpies, some had even whispered words of there being giants in the deepest, densest jungles. (Can work with most pred/prey scenarios~) -
