Fukui Tsukiko, a name that literally translates to "Fortunate Moon-child". The expression painting this poor teen's face would illustrate anything but fortune - and the same could be said for her family. The Fukui family have been part of a clan of Demon Hunters for generations upon generations, ninja-like mercenaries whom search out and collect bounty on the head's of various demons. Now, this in and of itself wouldn't be grounds enough to consider ones family "Unfortunate". No. The kicker for Tsuki here is that, for the last three or four generations, the eldest daughter of the family has been possessed by a painfully annoying demon, which grows more dominant with each subsequent generation. This demon, while it is evil, it's mostly fond of tricks, pranks and jokes, as well as being rather lust-crazed. It is rarely malevolent, unless faced with some sort of threat. It doesn't emerge often, and it was assumed that it was sealed within Tsukiko's great, great grandmother because it was causing too much mayhem around the village. Of course, the villagers would have tried to kill it, but for whatever reason - luck, wit, power - it just wouldn't die, so they sealed it. They probably hoped that, when Tsukiko's ancestor passed, so would the demon - but instead, each time a daughter was born to the family, they would be possessed by this prankster - and what's worse, the damn thing always ensured that a daughter was born first!
Tsukiko still has a life, of course - and is devoted (enough) to the primary occupation of her village. Having a demon within her actually aids Tsuki well enough, in that she can feel when others around are close to her, something akin to a "sixth sense" regarding demons. One can imagine that this would be a double edged sword, drawing curious, strong demons to Tsukiko and getting her in to quite a bit of trouble. It doesn't help that she's something of a novice, and has a hard time getting in to the mindset of how a demon hunter should act. She's also got problems with her body that are only semi-related to the demon within her. Her curves. She's got a butt. A big butt. It's the kind of butt that hinders her from crawling through tight places when she needs to sneak somewhere - as such she isn't taken very seriously by her peers, who would prefer to leave her behind if they could help it. This leaves the young teen feeling excluded, and lonely - only having a demon inside of her to keep her company, whom she despises more than anyone. Said demon refuses to tell anyone her name, which can be irritating - but also likes to taunt Tsuki from time to time, regaling her with stories of her mother (and grandmother)'s sex life. From time to time, the demon will take full control over the ninja's body - mostly to put her somewhere that will be annoying to get out of, but also when she's feeling particularly lusty, and wants to make Tsukiko breed. She has to live eternally, so she needs Tsukiko to have children eventually.
So, to sum up this (Un)fortunate Daughter of the Moon; She's a possessed, inexperienced demon hunter, with curves unfit for the occupation. Her body has been the primary catalyst for bullying from her peers, which has left her lonely, and also behind the rest of her class. A cry-baby, a bit of a coward, but still eager to prove herself, Tsukiko has accepted a mission to a far-off land where demons run rampant, hoping to return with as many trophies as possible to prove herself as an adequate member of the village. Her naivete could get her into quite a bit of trouble, considering that young, supple teen-aged girls wearing skin-tight clothing are the main dish of several residents of the region she's traveled to; residents that aren't even demon's to begin with.
Equipment: As a Demon Hunter, Tsukiko carries the standard with her. She mainly wields a pair of Kunai, which are said to have been enchanted using some sort of holy water, although that skin-tight clad body of hers seems to be decked with many small, useful weapons and knick knacks which are used in her profession: daggers, smoke bombs, pick-locks - the works. She's not exactly honed her skills with any of these, but she'd still impress one who was ignorant of the career.
Magic: Very basic, and she's even more novice at this than her stealth skills. She's learned a very low-key healing spell, as well as a poison-purifying spell. She also has one or two wards to keep demon's from entering wherever she sets them, for when she's camping out/sleeping. High class demon's generally laugh these pitiful wards off, and it actually seems to irritate Tsuki herself, given that a demon inhabits her. These spells are activated using runes she keeps in a belt attached to her waist, so she uses them sparingly, as they are very limited - the incantation can take up to a minute as well, so they're not exactly fit for using in battle.
A particularly clumsy performance on a mission ends up with our heroine being the only hunter caught, trussed up, and ready for dinner! ...I don't think that help is coming, sweetie...
The Demon
An fundamental part of Tsukiko's character is that she is inhabited by the Demon. While originally this demon was "Sealed" into her family as a desperate measure for the village's survival - it has certainly taken a liking to it's new home. With every new generation, the level that it assimilates into the daughter increases - and by Tsukiko's generation, it is as much a part of her as her own soul. When thinking of the relation between the two, one can't think of it as "One half is Tsukiko, the other half is the Demon", as that is putting it far too simply. Think of Tsuki's life as a pure white, delicately embroidered sheet - and then think of the Demon as a deep red wine, stained over various parts of that sheet. To cut those parts off is to cut away pieces of Tsukiko; trying to bleach the whole thing will ruin the original entirely. It's important to note that "X-ing the demon is the same as X-ing Tsuki" is true, while "X-ing Tsuki is the same as X-ing the demon" isn't necessarily so (With x representing a variety of verbs). This is largely due in part because the demon governs the soul, and has total control over which part takes damage - prioritizing it's own safety over the hunter's. If someone were to directly aim for the demon, then it would simply absorb the necessary energy from Tsukiko to regain the power that it lost - which has been known to happen, and will send the ninja into something similar to a coma for several days, as she struggles to regain her own energy. The amount she regains is regulated by the demon, which is not capable of producing energy for itself, so it must feed on Tsukiko's. When it's not being harmed, this means that it's no problem for the girl to function normally, so it's only when the demon is in real danger, that Tsuki has to worry about being drained to the point of passing out. Once the demon has replenished its share, then Tsukiko is allowed to start gaining back her own naturally, which is why regaining consciousness takes her so long. Mentally, the demon isn't nearly as invasive as it is spiritually - although it certainly likes to troll her. It's capable of whispering it's own thoughts and feelings into the girl at any given time, which can heavily influence what Tsukiko thinks/does, considering that it is a voice she's been hearing before she could even speak. On top of that, it is constantly trying to get her to have sex - as it desires a new body as soon as possible, considering that eventually, it will have regained so much strength, that the final daughter born to the family will be wholly demonic. Something of a re-incarnated physical form to the being. Finally, physically, the demon has the least influence. In fact, only when Tsukiko is physically and mentally exhausted is the demon capable of taking control of her actions; thus, if she's seen suddenly becoming uncharacteristically haughty, with dull eyes - then this is probably why. Killing the demon is virtually impossible without killing Tsukiko, however - should Tsukiko be killed, then the demon won't necessarily die as well. It was sealed with that family body, and as such, murdering the seal that put it there would be akin to releasing her. She wouldn't be as strong as if she were to reincarnate using her preferred method, but she'd still be free - though she'd lack a physical form.
