About The Garden:
Here, at
The_Gallery
, we believe that Mother Nature herself is an artist at heart; and so in our commitment to preserve and display greats works of art, how could we possibly overlook the myriad flora and fauna that Nature has perfected over the ages. While it is true that some plants were originally created by magic, it is Mother Nature that maintains them, propogates them, and fine tunes through evolution for every moment thereafter. So even magical constructs, plant golems, and otherworldly flowers owe their continued existance to Mother Nature. That said, it is with great pride and on behalf of all of us at The Gallery, I present to you, The Garden.
Beyond this gate are the results of months of work, research, and travel, culminating in the beauty you see. We have spared no expense in order find and acquire the most fascinating, exotic, rare, and vibrant collection of plants that this world and many others have to offer. And, just as Nature was the artist who designed these floral wonders, we also let Nature decide how best to display her works. And so The arrangement here is the result of the many seeds we've collected being thrown on the wind and allowed to fall where they will.
Be aware that a number of the plants inside display some mobility, intelligence, and some even exhibit carvivorous behaviors. We advise all of our guests to stay on the marked path both for the safety of our collection and for your own. Thr granite and flagstone path that meanders and winds through our garden's foliage is meant to be as natural to the environment as possible while also taking the safest route through The Garden. The staff here does however feel that there are a few specific plants that you, as our valued guests, should be made aware of to help avoid any unfortunate occurences while you visit our garden. Oh, and though it probably doesn't need to be said, please stay off the grass, it bites.

Public:
These plants can be used or referenced by anyone, in their RP's as additional hazards either in or apart from this particular setting.
Saul's Willow:
A.K.A. the Hanged Man's Noose. These appear to be simple willow trees, but the ends of their branches are looped. The tree is sensitive to vibrations and will remain absolutely motionless until the source of vibrations are withing striking range of the whippy branches, which can actually stretch like bungee cords when the plant desires them to. Once the souce of the vibrations, usually an animal or other mobile creature comes within range, the tree flails it's branches toward the target attempting to put one of the looped ends to its branches around some part of the target. The loops can expand or contract to accomodate the heads or limbs of most roughly man-sized creatures, if it succeeds, the tree immediately contracts the loop and and its outstretched branches and goes back to rest; expending only to attack and secure it's prey. Now with it's target caught and secured by one of the loops, the tree constricts that loop further, if a victem is only caught by one of their limbs, this will cause severe loss of circulation to that limb or appendage. If however the victem was caught by the neck, well this is where the tree gets its name, strangulating the victem to death. The tree hardors anumber of carrion feeders within its hole-riddled trunk which then emerge as the victem's corpse starts to decay. Between dripping bodily fluids from victems, and the defication of the carrion feeders that live within it's trunk, the Saul's Willow has a near constant supply of fertilizer added to the soil around it for it's own needs.
Lethargy Trees:
These trees are as beautiful as they are deadly. With their bronze bark, silver leaves and golden fruits whose sweet perfume attract all sorts of animals who lack an appreciation for precious metals, these trees are tempting flowers indeed to any treasure hunter and for good reason as the plants various components have great magical properties and are used by alchemists to concoct elixers and potions of profound potency. However this tree has the ability to sap one's energy and lifeforce starting at a distance of twenty feet from the trunk. The closer one gets to the tree, the faster the process becomes and the more tired and lethargic one will feel, so that by the time one reach's the trunk they are exhausted and sleepy. Most creatures will tend to lean against the trunk of the tree and go to sleep, this is indeed the most dangerous thing one can do as once the bark feels contact, it immediately begins growing around whatever is leaning against it. The process can take several hours, but if the victem is not woken up and pulled away, they will eventually be completely encased in the tree's bark and then absorbed like nutrients from the soil.
Carnivorous Grass:
The blades of green grow in large patches, and look just like any normal grass, the only real way to tell carnivous grass from normal grass is by smelling it. Carnivourous grass emits a sweet smelling perfume with properties similar to oppiates and tranquilizers. The smell isn't very strong as it dissipate quite quickly unless you put your nose to the ground. This species is also sensitive to changes in light, temperature and pressure. So when an animal or person has been around a patch of carnivous grass for long enough, they will start to become, giddy, inebriated, and sleepy until the pass out on the ground. There, the perfume and its effectst are much stronger as it has not dissipitated yet, keeping the victem happy and unconcious. Those blades of grass that detect a victem's weight, body heat, and are in shadow long enough to establish that the creature is nolonger moving will slowly begin to grow into the fallen victem's flesh. The process is slow but after a few hours, even if the victem wakes up, they will be unable to lift themselves from the ground without great pain and injury as the grass will have grown deep into their skin and muscle tissue by then. The grass will continue to grow into the victem's body absorbing everything they can, proteins, nutrients, minerals like calcium from the bones. Within days, there will be nothing left of the victem and the grass blades that have grown will retreat back into the soil to a normal, shallow height.
Venomweed:
An evolutionary offshoot of the carnivorous grass, this plants exhibit signs of near animal-level intelligence. Each heavily barbed stalk of venomweed is topped with a bright crimson leaf. If attacked, the stalks will all quickly retreat into the soil. When not threatened, they bombard the air with pheremones to attract all kinds of creature to within their deadly grasp. The stalks will actually lay flat against the ground looking like a pile of bright red leaves. When an animal comes close to the center of a patch of venomweed, the stalks all spring to life lashing themselves against the victem's feet and ankles first. This tactic and the plants barbs serve two purposes, first the barbs are surprisingly sharp, tearing through skin, fur, hide, even clothing and leather very quickly, second the barbs also inject a poison into the victem with every strike, causing muscle weakness and paralysis. The quick movements of all the attacking stalks cause serious injury to the legs and feet of anything caught within their grasp, slicing and tearing away pieces of flesh, leaving behind venom to quickly fell the creature and prevent it's escape. A healthy patch of venome weed grows upto three feet tall, and can completely rend the flesh from most man-sized creatures in only a few minutes. The flesh is then left to decay and seep into the ground as fertilizer while the bones are literally thrown from the patch so as not to alert potential future meals as to the deadlyness of the plants.

OOC Remarks:
This is not an actual character, but a dual purpose setting and secondary alt-list. Feel free to reference this setting and any of the public use plants to whatever purposes in your RPs. The Advanced Flora however are my characters and I ask that you repsectfully avoid from using them in your RP's except maybe as a refernce to say that you saw them.
