In the juvenile days of Desideriis, barely after the world had become lush and populated with fantastic creatures, the Great Tree gave life to the first Giant. She was the first creation of intelligent life; the first to breathe the air and understand what it meant to do so.
For many years she wandered the primary realm she had been born into, following some internal design to seek out others like her, but was unable to find what she sought. As timeless centuries passed, she had wandered around the globe in circles in her search. She came to realize that she was alone, a reality that she could not accept, so she determined to create life of her own to accompany her. On her hands and knees she tore stone from the earth and built bodies with it, breathing into it the same life that had been granted to her. The creature of stone shifted, gasped, and rose. The race of the Giants had been born.
As she created thousands more of her kind, the race of her creation settled into their roles as the caretakers of Desideriis. She gave each and every one of them names, and they gave her the name of simply 'Mother'. Somewhere along the lines she created Aumbur as well.
Uncertain of what to do with themselves as caretakers, they decided to split up and search for life that needed help. By the shores, they found seabirds that could not raise their young in safety from predators, and so for them the giants cracked the lands and lifted massive seaside cliffs for them to reside in. In the depths of the ocean, they found creatures sensitive to the light that could not find a deep enough place to swim, and for them the giants dug deep and perilous trenches that scarred the ocean floors. And for one little and very resiliant flower that was being crowded out by other plants, they built whole mountain ranges so that the flower could live uncontested at their peaks.
As time crawled ever on, the Great Tree that had given birth to Mother began to give life to new souls. New Ancients of Desideriis that were different from the giants; they were smaller, weaker, alone and confused. The giants showed them all they had learned, and in time these Ancients learned how to create new life by themselves as well. And so people came to populate the great realms that the giants had shaped, and the giants watched in caution. For the first time in Eons, all the giants met to discuss these new peoples. They took advantage of the land, they trampled beauty and tortured the creatures in the name of their own progress. As the caretakers of life, they decided that they would allow them to persist, but they would no longer stand to help them.
With the new arrival of these other people, the era of Giants ended and the era of smaller life began. Where once only one intelligent being stood, there now were countless; the world had simply become too small for them to continue their reign. The first one to rest was Mother, wishing to set an example for her children. She wandered her way to the cradles of the mountain ranges that she built in the primary realm a forever ago. She layed herself down, raising around her the tallest mountain in the realm so that she could sleep peacefully within it's heart. Waiting for some change in the world to come while they slept, all of the giants followed in the footsteps of Mother. All except one.
