Who is Bernadetta von Varley?

Bernadetta von Varley, or Bernie, is a character from Fire Emblem Three Houses, a game released on July 26th, 2019 by Nintendo. Like many characters in the game, Bernadetta is a student at the Officer's Academy located at Garreg Mach Monastery, which is overseen by the Church of Seiros. Born in the year 1162 as the eldest daughter of the current Count Varley of the Adrestian Empire, Bernadetta is a reclusive shut-in who is rarely seen outside of her own room, and any attempt to socialize with the girl will quickly reveal her skittish and socially-awkward nature. While she won't speak about it openly to just anyone, this is due in part to her father's attempts to groom her as a child into what he considered a perfect wife - tying her to a chair for hours without allowing her to speak or move. As such, Bernadetta would come to dread this training, and was only truly able to find comfort during her brief moments of solitude away from her father.

Bernadetta is around the same age as most other students at the academy, being 17 at the start of the game. She is a member of the Black Eagles house, led by Edelgard, future emperor of the Adrestian Empire. Because of her reserved nature, she does not deal well with eccentric or assertive personalities, and can be quickly engulfed by her own fears, sometimes breaking down into a state of absolute terror and panic, and in others freezing in place entirely. While in this state, it can take some time to snap her out of it, and even then, one has to be delicate as to not worsen the situation. Though even when it's over, she may begin to frantically apologize, even when she is not the one at fault. Like Hilda of the Golden Deer, Bernadetta will sometimes feign illness to avoid chores or other social actions - though in her case it is due to low self-esteem and shyness, not extreme laziness. While not in the company of anyone else, usually when she's in her room, Bernie has a few hobbies of note, such as; reading, drawing, music, stuffed animals, and particularly of note - a fascination with strange or otherwise unusual creatures.

Please note that I have beaten the game twice, once with the Golden Deer at around 39 hours, and again with the Black Eagles at around 80 hours. However, as I have said on all of these profiles, knowledge of the source material is not required. Please don't feel intimidated, I just really like these characters.

How would I use Bernadetta?

As you can probably tell, Bernadetta is not a character that would traditionally be seen as a predator, and I am fully aware of that. But I've had a ton of ideas of how to use her for the past couple of months, and I want to get them off my chest. Due to her nature, I think she'd work perfectly as a secretive predator who has to hide her antics from the rest of the academy, a reluctant one who is initially forced into it by someone else, or an unwilling one. I love the idea of this being a way for her to gain some confidence in herself, and slowly evolve as a person.

One idea I have for Bernie is the antisocial vampire, who, while needing to come out every once in a while to restore her full strength - just stops after a period of time, leading someone to try and bring her out! And in general, I think the idea of putting her in an unknown environment, out of her comfort zone, is a great idea! It forces her to try to be social, and get to know people. At least, ideally.

- I'm actively looking for someone to plan out a scenario with, and trying to reach out myself. Rare due to my social anxiety.

- Either I'm away from the keyboard, or I've been idle for too long and forgot to change my status back to open.
