Who is Mercedes von Martritz?

Mercedes von Martritz is a character from Fire Emblem Three Houses, a game released on July 26th, 2019 by Nintendo. Like many characters in the game, Mercedes is a student at the Officer's Academy located at Garreg Mach Monastery, which is overseen by the Church of Seiros. Born in the year 1157 to Baron Martritz of the Adrestian Empire, though quickly relocated to the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus after her father's death and mother's marriage to Baron Bartels, Mercedes grew up being treated as expendable, and otherwise unwanted by her stepfather and extended family. This would prompt her and her mother to flee when she was 10, ultimately residing in a church in eastern Faerghus until her eventual adoption by a merchant from the capital of Fhirdiad, who raised her as a commoner. Mercedes would attend a school of sorcery at the capital prior to her enrollment at the Officer's Academy, and would speak little of her complicated family life.

Mercedes is older than most students at the academy, being 22 years old during the first portion of the game. She is a member of the Blue Lions house, led by Dmitri, the crown prince of Faerghus, and is a close friend of Annette, who she met at the aforementioned school of sorcery. The most accurate way to describe Mercedes would be as a gentle soul, as she is a kind individual who cannot overlook a person in need, often times piling tremendous amount of work or chores onto herself simply to help another. She is softspoken, never raising her voice if someone messes something up, choosing instead to comfort them and ease any frustrations they may have. While her Crest is fairly minor, one ability she does possess allows her to feel the emotions of others, which she can therefore use to help solve personal disputes and whatnot faster and easier. She also has a love for sweets, and enjoys both baking and consuming them.

Please note that I have beaten the game twice, once with the Golden Deer at around 39 hours, and again with the Black Eagles at around 80 hours. Also, knowledge of the source material is definitely not required! I just really like these characters, so please don't feel intimidated.

How would I use Mercedes?

As you can probably tell, Mercedes is not a character that would traditionally be seen as a predator, and I am fully aware of that. I think Mercedes does have potential as a predator, though not out of malice. Considering her ability to sense others' feelings, I think it could be interesting if this ability was manipulated in some way, making her sense the wrong emotions from people, and interpreting them differently. Such as people "wanting" to be eaten and whatnot. And considering her heavy religious stance, she could be reluctant at first, but ultimately decide that this is the will of the goddess, and work to carry that out.

I genuinely believe that her character would still work with a chubby, softer figure, and that it could really help play into that motherly aspect of her. She could also work as an enabler for someone else who is serving as a predator, her motherly nature being used to comfort and encourage this person to eliminate the "evil" in the name of the goddess.

If you're familiar with some of my older Fire Emblem profiles, then you'll know I'm a fan of alternate versions of characters. I'd totally be down to whip up a unique version of any of the Three Houses characters I have profiles for.
