Who is Edelgard von Hresvelg?

Edelgard von Hresvelg is a character from Fire Emblem Three Houses, a game released on July 26th, 2019 by Nintendo. Like many characters in the game, Edelgard is a student at the Officer's Academy located at Garreg Mach Monastery, which is overseen by the Church of Seiros. Born in the year 1162 as the ninth child of Emperor Ionius IX of the Adrestian Empire, she is heir to the throne - being the only surviving child out of her ten siblings.

Edelgard is around the same age as most other students at the academy, being 17 at the start of the game. She is the leader of the Black Eagles house, mostly consisting of students from the Adrestian Empire. As the sole princess of Adrestia and its future emperor, she presents herself as a dignified individual who carries the burdens of her country's future on her shoulders. To many, she has an aura of strength that rarely wavers, nor does her composure; always keeping to her formalities and respecting those around her. Because of this, it's always a surprise when she decides to don a more laid-back tone, as it's a side to the princess that few ever see. In general, she tends to keep away from speaking about her duties to Adrestia, though is always confident that she will see her ambitions through. Now, you may be wondering, What are her ambitions? - and to that I say; well, that's a spoiler minefield waiting to go off. So, if you're okay with getting the latter half of Three Houses spoiled, the next section is for you!

Due to the trauma she and her ten siblings experienced as children while being experimented on by Those Who Slither in the Dark (I seriously hate that name) - which led to many of them being driven mad or simply dying due to exhaustion or starvation, Edelgard possesses two Crests, the Crest of Seiros, inherited through her bloodline, and more significantly - the Crest of Flames; an extremely rare and powerful one not seen since the days of Nemesis, also known as the King of Liberation, who slaughtered the people of Zanado before being killed by Saint Seiros herself. This whole ordeal would deeply impact her worldview, and lead to a deep hatred of Crests, and Fódlan's societal structure which depended so heavily on them. For those who don't know, Crests are said to be blessings from the goddess Sothis herself, and grant the bearer incredible powers. They're usually passed on via a family's bloodline, and are a sign of prestige to the people of Fódlan - as many noble families possess one.

Edelgard seeks to destroy Fódlan's nobility system, and return to one based on merit as opposed to birthright. In her mind, Fódlan relies too much on Crests for one's social status, as those without one are often lower class citizens, and looked down upon by the nobility. She believes the Church of Seiros is largely responsible for letting Fódlan get to this state, seeing the Archbishop Rhea as a tyrant who uses her immense political power to eliminate any who oppose her. She holds disdain for most nobility for their part in this as well, particularly those of Adrestia, as they were the ones who allowed for her family to be experimented on, despite her father's best efforts. In reality, Edelgard's persona is somewhat of a facade, as she is far more ruthless than she would let on, being willing to do anything and sacrifice anyone to accomplish her goals, and believes that the ends will justify the means if she is able to win the war between Fódlan's three countries.

Please note that I have beaten the game twice, once with the Golden Deer at around 39 hours, and again with the Black Eagles at around 80 hours. However, as I have said on all of these profiles, knowledge of the source material is not required. Please don't feel intimidated, I just really like these characters.

How would I use Edelgard?

I don't have any exact ideas for Edelgard nailed down as of yet, but there's certainly a lot of possibilities. For example, something between her and Rhea, or something more romantic with Byleth or whoever else. It could also be interesting to delve into the spoilers, and perhaps do some form of alternate history with her backstory. After all, she did have ten siblings. But like with my existing FE profiles for the Awakening/Fates characters, I'm not opposed to creating alternate versions of Edelgard, perhaps in a more modern setting, or an alternate reality based on one of the routes in the game.

What My Statuses Mean!

- Open to approach! Whether it be just chatting, brainstorming ideas for scenarios, or actually playing something! I love talking to people, just hate approaching them myself.

- I'm actively looking for someone to plan out a scenario with, and trying to reach out myself. Rare due to my social anxiety.
