When the phrase "mad scientist" is spoken, personalities like Dr. Doom, Dr. Wily, or Dr. Robotnik come to mind, not ... Dr. Charlotte Schulten. Oh, she looks harmless and attractive enough - young and still beautiful, with the charm of a girl and the allure of a seductress - but behind that sweet facade is the mind of a twisted genius. She likes to affect jeans and a spaghetti strap shirt, along with some light jewelry for most of her everyday appearance, though Charlotte has a large wardrobe and shoe collection as well. She doesn't wear a white lab coat unless performing a delicate experiment (seriously, who's ever seen a theorist in a lab coat, and when working with machinery some heavier safety gear is necessary). At 5' 9", Charlotte is somewhat taller than the average woman, and she exacerbates this trait somewhat with her inordinate fondness for high heeled shoes.
She's brilliant, but insane. She's insane, but brilliant.
Somewhere along the line her fine training and research in physics spilled over and she turned into an omnidisciplinary scientist/engineer/inventor. Too much theoretical physics can break the mind, so they say. Now she spends a great deal of time holed up all alone in her mansion, tinkering away with various inventions. Her more practical appliances (some of which she actually bothered to patent) ensure a steady supply of income from sales and licensing, leaving her with both the funds and the leisure to pursue her intellectual interests. Contemporaries suggest that there is no field of knowledge she has not essayed - while every bit a nerd, Charlotte has also read many of the literary classics, as well as studying history and the social sciences. She likes to appear absent-minded, but that is a ruse - like many a psychopath, Charlotte possesses quite a bit of subtlety and sophistication hidden beneath her manipulative veneer. She brings the charm and the charisma out for assassination missions. To close friends, she talks straight.
Which brings us to her problematic personality. While she doesn't talk much about her past life, a determined enough person might discover her problems with authority and the grudges she holds for perceived or real slights as a child. On the outside, while she might appear wise, calm, serene, and even living a perfect life, she's a walking mass of complexes and emotional trouble inside. Repeated childhood incidents have left her somewhat withdrawn and reserved, not given to speaking her mind often, and she favors intimate companionships over having a wide circle of friends. Like many great (and insane) minds, she suffers heavily from isolation and lack of suitable company. That isn't to say she'll turn down a handsome man driving a Lamborghini who kneels to kiss her hand, but she lacks the patience to watch sports or talk gossip when there are so many more interesting ideas to discuss, like the migration habits of gypsies in the 18th century or the topological discontinuities in arbitrary N-dimensional Hilbert spaces! She's not given to small talk, preferring instead of either have discussions of substance or to stay silent. Somewhat ironically, she's very self-aware of her emotional problems, and Charlotte is both subtle and observant enough that she could be a very sharp psychiatrist indeed in her moments of lucidity.
Activity-wise, she's a trained martial artist and rumors have floated around for years of shady involvement with arms dealers and illegal weapon trades. A popular belief held amongst the local citizens concerns her house being either haunted or used as a secret laboratory for all kinds of unethical experiments. Her skill as a cook and chef varies widely; sometimes she can whip up a masterpiece, but she likes to experiment as much with food as the rest of her life, so sometimes she produces burnt sacrifices instead. Otherwise, most of her free time is taken up with half-sensical plots to rule the world via some insane troll logic ("Pavlovian indoctrination starting with basketball players worldwide"), or else just building devices for her amusement ("A machine that does nothing but turn itself off when turned on. Drives OCD people mad!").
Charlotte often wonders what she will do with the rest of her life. She can't imagine herself married to anyone or raising a family, and while she's content to drift through each day as it comes, her biological clock is still ticking.

- A passworded book binder that shocks anyone who tries to open it without the proper password
- A sex-starved tentacle monster ("The pleasure, I assure you, will all be his.")
- A chemical spray that produces portalable surfaces
- Air-dash high heels ("Made them girly so that men would be too embarrassed to use them.")
- A bra which turns the wearer's breasts into a hammerspace ("Don't try it, guys. Trust me, just ... no.")
- A portable earthquake generator ("Doesn't go higher than 2.6 on the Richter, sadly.")
- A size-changing ray gun ("If you shoot at a reflective surface, it fails. As do you.")
- Half a dozen cars that convert into bipedal armored walkers
- A cell phone which causes brains to burst
- Various teleportation devices ("Teleporting panties. Yes, you heard me correctly.")
- Virtual reality mind devices
- Tanden engine ("Become a part of me, hee hee heh ...")
- One "The Doctor is In/Out" sign. Has a nasty habit of punching door-to-door salesmen.
